ISLAMABAD: Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) here on Wednesday conditionally suspended non-bailable arrest warrant for former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf while directing him to appear before the trial court on April 27.
The IHC bench, in its order, said if Musharraf did not appear before the trial court on April 27, his arrest warrant would become applicable.
A trial court of Islamabad on April 2, while hearing the murder case of Abdul Rasheed Ghazi and his mother’s case, issued non-bailable warrants for Pervez Musharraf with confiscation of his surety bonds.
Musharraf through his lawyer then adopted before the IHC that a medical board was examining his health. He was willing to appear before the trial court but it was not possible due to his health condition and security reasons. The petitioner adopted that the trial court had not only issued his arrest warrant but also confiscated his surety bonds amounting to Rs100,000.
During the Wednesday’s hearing, Musharraf’s counsel argued before the IHC that the trial court did not consider his client’s medical reports of April 6. At this, the IHC bench said that this case had been pending since 2013 and Musharraf had been provided with numerous chances to appear before the court.
The court asked Musharraf’s counsel if his client was ready to appear before the court on April 27. His counsel said that he would appear and also submitted an affidavit in this regard. The court then issuing the said order disposed of the petition.
